Description
Owned by the Caledonian Insurance Company before becoming a hotel in 1881, the George Hotel is a stately grade II listed Georgian building located amid the shops and restaurants of George Street, 125 metres from Princes Street. The 195 guestrooms feature traditional country style decor with brightly coloured fabrics and dark wood furniture. All are equipped with cable TV and pay movies, dial up Internet connections (surcharge), direct dial phones with voicemail, coffee/tea making facilities and complimentary weekday newspapers. White tiled bathrooms feature tub and shower combinations, wall mounted hair dryers and complimentary toiletries. Housed under a glass dome in a former trading hall dating from 1770, the Carvers Table Restaurant offers a buffet of fresh fish, roast meats and vegetarian options, and also hosts Scottish, Arabian and casino theme nights. Le Chambertin is a split level fine dining restaurant serving modern Scottish dishes for lunch and dinner. Guests can sample single malt whiskies in the bar, which has a country club feel with oak panelling, leather sofas, and glass cabinets displaying clan crests from all over Scotland. Highland tea, with fresh scones, shortbread and pastries, is served daily in the lobby lounge.
